WELCOME TO THE OFFICIAL
WEB SITE OF THE EMBASSY OF THE FEDERAL DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF ETHIOPIA IN PRETORIA, SOUTH AFRICA.

Ethiopia is an ancient African country and one of the oldest states in the world. As Abyssinia its culture and traditions date back over 3,000 years and as the Kingdom of Cush beyond time immemorial. Throughout the centuries, Ethiopia had always been the symbol of ancient African civilization and statehood--one that can boast the most remarkable achievement and glorious past from long bygone times.

Ethiopia also is known as a museum of peoples as it represents a mosaic of national/ linguistic communities or nations, speaking more than 83 different languages, with about 200 dialects, and professing different religions. It is a land of contrast and diversity boasting numerous interesting and wonderful tourist attractions.

The natural beauty of Ethiopia amazes the first time visitor as the country is a land of rugged mountains (some 25 are over 4,000 meters high), broad savannah lakes and rivers. The great and unique Rift Valley is a remarkable region of volcanic lakes with their famous collections of flora and fauna, and bird life, great escarpments and stunning vistas.

Today, Ethiopia is undergoing unprecedented economic expansion accompanied by rapid growth of the private sector, and underpinned by increasingly market-orientated economic policies. With annual GDP growth of over 10% between 2005 and 2007, and over 7% in 2008 and 2009, the potential of the Ethiopian economy has begun to capture international investors’ attention.

Ranked ninth among 46 Sub-Saharan African countries in the recently-published Doing Business Report, Ethiopia has attracted investors due to the combination of its increasingly stable political landscape, significant infrastructure development, emerging middle class and rising income levels.

Moreover, under-penetration within the sizeable Ethiopian market presents enormous domestic growth opportunities and cross border expansion for Ethiopian companies.

As the second-most populous country ofAfrica, Ethiopia is a multilingual and multi-ethnic society, and its capital is considered to be the "political capital of Africa."

Besides the citizens of Ethiopia, Our website will help, visitors, investors, travellers and adventurers to discover Ethiopia.

Quick guide to Ethiopia

Ethiopia has always held a special place in my own imagination and the prospect of visiting Ethiopia attracted me more strongly than a trip to France, England and America combined. I felt I would be visiting my own genesis, unearthing the roots of what made me an African.[Nelson Mandela - In His Book Long Walk to Freedom Chapter 47 Page 349, 1994: ]
